20 Week Ultrasound!!

We're at the half-way point and Reuben and I went in for my 20 week ultrasound today. We were both very excited to see the baby and to find out how everything is progressing. We were very lucky to have our friend, who is an ultrasound technologist at Reuben's work, do our scan. She started the measurements (one of the femur first) and then went straight for the important stuff...the gender! Drumroll please....Reuben and I are very proud to announce that IT'S A BOY!!! The picture was very obvious and all of our suspicions about the baby being a boy were confirmed! :) The excitement continued as the ultrasound went on...the baby is measuring perfectly at exactly 20 weeks and we got to see him sucking his thumb and yawn! He is again face down (his favorite) and he likes to have his hands up by his face...same as his mother. :) Face down is not a good position to measure the heart or to get the cute profile keepsake pics so the technologist had me empty my bladder and walk around for a few minutes to encourage the baby to move. We took this opportunity to call our parents and share the good news. Everyone was very excited! When we got back he was in a better position and she measured the heart, which was beating at 147 beats per minute. However, as soon as she finished he flipped and was face down again! We got a lot of great pictures and they were given to us on a CD. I'm working on trying to extract some of the files from the CD's program and as soon as I figure it out I'll post them.

Overall, the ultrasound went very well and we are very thankful that the baby is healthy. He's been kicking/punching me for a week now. The movements aren't big enough for Reuben to feel yet...hopefully soon. Now that we know it's a boy we can narrow down our search for names. To keep with Reuben's family tradition, the first name will begin with an "R". We have a few favorites but we have several months still to decide! Everything else is going well with the pregnancy and I'm feeling great. More to come soon!

Father's Day

Father's Day is coming up this weekend and I wanted to do something special for Reuben and our fathers. We haven't had any ultrasounds done since my first OB appointment so I thought of framing a new picture and personalizing it for them. I asked my ultrasound friend at work to take a couple quick pics and here they are:

The baby was positioned very low and again face down. So profile pictures were not an option. You can pretty clearly see the skull with the eyes looking at you on the right and the torso on the left with the ribs as the little white dots surrounding the torso. On the second picture you can the arm running through the word grandpa. I told the technologist that I did not want to know the sex yet so it's still a mystery! :)

Both Dad and Grandpas loved their pictures. Our baby is very luck to have such wonderful, strong men in his/her life and to have such wonderful families with lots of love and support! Happy Father's Day!!!

Week 19 - Third Doctors Visit

I had my third OB appointment yesterday. It was another short appointment but everything seems to be progressing well. This time, before I went in, I downloaded an app for my iphone so I could record audio of the heartbeat. It was the first time I used it and my doctor and I were really impressed with how well it worked! I'm hoping to figure out a way to upload it to this site to share...stay tuned!

Last night while Reuben and were watching a movie I think I felt the first little movements! I didn't recognize it as fluttering or butterflies, as most people said, but more like a tapping. I laid in bed for a long time waiting for and feeling the movements. I was so excited it took awhile to fall asleep!

We're really looking forward to the 20 week ultrasound next week! We'll get to see the little (big)peanut and hopefully find out the gender!
